Maiden's Tower
The "snake" legend
The Byzantine Emperor has a daughter and the emperor is so happy that the day his daughter is born becomes a feast day for the whole country. Every birthday of this precious princess is celebrated throughout the country with lots of fun and glamorous parties. The emperor gathers the most important scholars of Byzantium and asks them to educate his daughter about the administration of the country. The most knowledgeable, oldest of the summoned scholars has a prophecy that will upset the emperor. Because before the princess turns 18, a snake will sting her and the girl will die. The emperor is both very angry and very afraid, and he repairs a tower on a tiny island in the middle of the sea, his daughter will now live in this sheltered place and the snakes will not be able to bite her.
But just before the princess turns 18, a snake emerges from the basket of grapes sent to the tower and stings her.
The emperor is devastated when he loses his daughter and does not want to bury his princess. Because there are too many snakes in the soil and at least he wants to be able to move the dead of his daughter away from the snakes. For this, he embalmed the body of his daughter, put it in a brass coffin, and placed the coffin on the highest wall of Hagia Sophia. In this way, the snakes will not be able to reach her daughter's body. However, that is not the case, according to legend, there are 2 snake holes on that brass coffin.
